Replaced strut mount on Jeep Cherokee KL

Replaced strut mount on Jeep Cherokee KL

I was experiencing a clunk when turning the wheel, on tight turns and certain other times. I thought it was because of the lift I installed and lived with it. When I had the Jeep in for a software update the dealer said I needed a new strut and "related components". Made sense that it would be the strut mount and that is exactly what ended up needing to be replaced. So I made a project out of it.

Jeep did not make this strut to easily come out and replace. I did the strut mount replacement only on the driver's side. Some say to remove the knuckle, I instead went this route with the spring compressors. A hassle either way but the price was right.

Installing Mopar hitch on 2016 Cherokee Latitude KL

Jeep Cherokee Latitude Trailer Hitch

This is my experience installing a trailer hitch and bezel on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4 (AD1). I have not done the hitch wiring, this video only covers the hitch install.  This process should translate to all 2014+ Cherokees (KL) barring any design changes in future year models. This job is not difficult if a day is set aside for it. I recommend a rotary tool with a cutting wheel for the cutting of the bumper plastic for the bezel install.

I am not currently doing any towing, so did not install the trailer wiring. I mainly installed it to utilize accessories. Now I get to install fun accessories like this step!

There is also a hitch-mounted hi-lift/trail jack mount that I am interested in.

The instructions that come with the hitch can require a bit of interpretation. I even skipped a portion of the bezel install due to lack of clarity. The hitch and bezel are on now, however, and quite solid.

Here is a video of my installation experience:

Hey folks. Did you find value in this information? Maybe even $2.50 or $2.99 worth of information? Then consider buying a Kindle, Android or iPhone version of one of my books, which have nothing do do with Jeeps at all. Do give them a positive review if you end up doing so.

Video - Tire Rub Fix for Larger Tires on Lifted 2016 Cherokee Latitude - KL

This video is for those curious about putting 245/70r17 tires on a budget lifted KL Latitude 4x4 with AD1 (Active Drive 1). I installed 245/70r17 All Terrains that are 30.6" when new. I had some slight rubbing on the flexible plastic liner of the rear wheel hub. After implementing this fix, I have experienced no more rubbing. I am not doing heavy offroading as of yet, but will confirm on more challenging trails in the future. My vehicle is mostly for surf fishing and fire road access.

Video Lifting Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4 KL - AD1

This is footage of me doing a budget lift of my 2016 Jeep Cherokee (KL) Latitude 4x4 with Active Drive 1. The lift kit, combined with 30.5" All Terrain tires gave me over 2 inches of increased height. Some people use only spring compressors and some people only disconnect the lower control arm. I did both. I kind of slapped the video together and have some clunky mic moments but hopefully the video helps someone interested in doing this job. I will have another video of making the new tires fit without rubbing.
